After leaving behind MCU for good (except for the Black Widow cameo), Robert Downey is back taking other projects. Downey will now play Dr. Dolittle, a physician who possesses the capability to communicate with animals. While Eddie Murphy has already essayed this role, Downey's Dolittle is set in Victorian England.
After losing his wife seven years earlier, the eccentric Dr. John Dolittle (Downey), famed doctor and veterinarian of Queen Victoria's England, hermits himself away behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of exotic animals for the company. But when the young queen (Jessie Buckley) falls gravely ill, a reluctant Dolittle is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in the search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and discovers wondrous creatures.
"Dolittle" is directed by Oscar-winner Stephen Gaghan, who also wrote the script with John Whittington. It stars Robert Downey Jr., Harry Collet, Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent, Jessie Buckley, and Rami Malek, Tom Holland, John Cena, Marion Cotillard, Carmen Ejogo, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, Kumail Nanjiani, Emma Thompson, Octavia Spencer, and Frances de La Tour in voice roles.
"Dolittle" sets sails on January 17, 2020.
