Kevin Smith is latest in the line of artists coming in defense of Scorsese's skepticism of "comic book cinema." The filmmaker, who attended the premiere of his movie "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" talked about how he felt about Scorsese's remarks on the subject of Marvel movies being "theme parks."
"Martin Scorsese is a genius. But to be fair, my entire film career - even prior to my film career - he's been pretty much saying the same thing about action movies" said Smith, a known comic book aficionado himself.
Smith went ahead with a cheeky dig at Scorsese, saying that the "Taxi Driver" filmmaker has himself made the greatest superhero movie ever saying, " "For my money, I think Martin Scorsese made the biggest superhero movie ever, which wasThe Last Temptation of Christ. Don't get much bigger of a superhero than Jesus. He beats Superman and Downey every time, so maybe Martin is bending on that territory."
Smith also went on saying that like him, many people have a personal connection to comic books related movies, "I can still step into one of those comic book movies, divorce myself of that fact that I do this for a living, release, and my dead dad is back for a minute, for two hours," Smith explained. "And it's personal for a lot of the audience. You know, and we're not arguing whether or not it counts as cinema."
"Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" is in theatres now. Smith will be working next on "Clerks 3" the plot for which is based on his recent heart-attack and the horror-comedy anthology "Killroy Was Here"
