"Heat" and "The Insider" director Michael Mann will be directing the "Tokyo Vice" pilot for the streaming platform, HBO Max. "Tokyo Vice" will star Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver and the West Side Story remake) with the Japanese actor Ken Watanabe (Godzilla: King of Monsters and Fukushima 50.)
"Tokyo Vice" is will be based on an American reporter Jake Adelstein's years living in Tokyo as the first non-Japanese reporter working for one of Japan's largest newspapers, Yomiuri Shinbun. In the HBO Max adaptation, Ansel Elgort will play Jake, embeds himself into the Tokyo Vice police squad to reveal corruption.
Playwright J.T Rogers will write the 10-episode series for HBO Max. John Lesher, Emily Gerson Saines, Destin Daniel Cretton, and Michael Mann will executive produce the series along with Elgort and Watanabe. "Tokyo Vice" will debut on HBO Max following its spring 2020 launch.
