British actor Rachel Weisz will play the iconic Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming biopic "A Special Relationship." The movie is written by Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and directed by the female directing duo Bert and Bertie (Troop Zero).
"A Special Relationship" will look at how Elizabeth Taylor's friendship with her newly hired personal assistant Wall, a gay man who grew up in poverty in the homophobic Deep South lead her to become a leading activist for AIDS awareness, betting her entire reputation for a noble cause.
`Audiences are clearly fascinated by the private lives of iconic Hollywood stars,` Canning and Sherman said. `There is no one more iconic than Elizabeth Taylor, and Simon Beaufoy has written a role that shines a light on Elizabeth's humor and humanity, which will be beautifully brought to life through the extraordinary talents of Rachel Weisz."
Rachel Weisz won an Oscar for "The Constant Gardener" and was nominated recently for "The Favorite." Weisz will also be seen in the upcoming Marvel movie "Black Widow" where she will play Melina Vostokoff.
