Here's your first look at Willem Defoe donning a fur coat in an extremely snowy background (with dogs, lots of dogs). After playing Thomas Wake, a salty sailor in Robert Eggers' The Lighthouse he's headed for a change of terrain and tone.
Togo centers on two key figures in the 1925 serum run to Nome, also known as "The Great Race of Mercy" in which dog-sled teams relayed to transport diphtheria antitoxin serum through harsh conditions over nearly 700 miles to save the Alaskan town of Nome from an epidemic. Eventually triumphant, he used to be considered by most to be too small and weak to lead such an intense race.
Willem Defoe will lead the charge as Togo's owner and trainer Leonhard "Sepp" Seppala, sharing screen space with Julianne Nicholson, Michael Gaston, and Tom Christopher Heyerdahl co-star. The movie is written by Tom Flynn and directed by Ericson Core and will release on December 13 this year for Disney +.
