"Star Wars" actor Kelly Marie Tran has joined the voice cast of "The Croods" sequel. Released in 2013, "The Croods" followed Grug (Nicolas Cage) and his family as they embarked on a journey to search for a new house. It was also a nominee for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars for that year.

The sequel will find Croods pitted against another family, The Bettermens. Tran will voice the only child of Betterman parents (Peter Dinklage and Leslie Mann). Through Eep's (Emma Stone) encouragement and a journey with the Croods, a sheltered Dawn embraces her wild side and finally finds her voice and the courage to be herself.

The sequel is to be directed by Joel Crawford with Mark Swift producing. Crawford, on the inclusion of Tran in the cast, said that "From the moment Kelly stepped behind the mic, we knew we had found our Dawn Betterman. She brings the perfect mix of quirkiness and heart to the role and is a perfect addition to our incredible cast."

"The Croods 2" has a theatrical release date of December 23, 2020.
