Lin Manuel-Miranda' has rounded up a star-studded cast for his directorial debut "tick, tick... BOOM!". The "Hamilton" creator will be joined by Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Shipp, and Robin de Jesus for Netflix's movie adaptation of the musical autobiography of Jonathan Larson. Larson went on to write "Rent" for which he won 3 Tony Awards posthumously and the esteemed Pulitzer Prize.
The cast will join Andrew Garfield will play Jon, (based on Larson) an aspiring theater composer who waits tables in New York City while writing "Superbia" which he hopes will be the great American musical that will finally give him his big career break. The young man is feeling pressure from his girlfriend Susan (Alexandra Shipp), who is tired of continuing to put her life on hold for Jon's career aspiration.
Meanwhile, Jon's best friend and roommate Michael has given up on his creative dream and has taken a high paying advertising job on Madison Avenue and is preparing to move out. As Jon approaches his 30th birthday, he is overcome with anxiety, wondering if his own impossible dream is worth the cost.
"Tick, Tick ... Boom!" is being written by Steven Levenson, with Miranda directing. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard will produce along with Julie-Oh and Lin-Manuel Miranda himself. Julie Larson, Levenson and Celia Costas have come on board as executive producers.
