AFI will felicitate iconic American filmmaker Martin Scorsese at their upcoming film fest. The tribute which will take place on November 15 at the TLC Chinese Theatre in Hollywood will include the screening of Scorsese's latest movie "The Irishman" and a follow-up conversation.
Bob Gazzale, the CEO and President of AFI said in a statement "Martin Scorsese is an American master. It is a profound honor for AFI to bring movie lovers together for one night to stand and celebrate this visionary storyteller whose passion for cinema echoes from film preservation to the advancement of the art form.`
The tribute will be a refreshing change of pace for the filmmaker who has been in new for his opinions regarding the Marvel movies. Scorsese's comments were taken as an affront by some, and to clarify his stand he wrote an insightful article in the New York Times this Monday.
His latest movie "The Irishman" is based on Frank Sheeran's memoir 'I Heard You Paint Houses" and is the story of an aging hitman Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro) who recalls his possible involvement in the disappearance of labor leader Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) and his involvement with the Buffalino crime family.
