Alfonso Gomez-Rejon has been attached to direct Chris Pine in "Newsflash". The movie will be an autobiographical drama about legendary new anchor Walter Cronkite (to be played by Pine), who was tasked with reporting the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Texas on November 22, 1963.
Before Rejon, David Gordan Green was attached to direct but eventually left the project. Currently in pre-production and set for shooting in New York next year, "Newsflash" is written by Ben Jacoby. Greg Silverman, Gideon Yu, Lisa Zambri with Jonathan Lim and Adam Kolbrenner will serve as producers.
Rejon made his debut with the coming-of-age movie "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl". His sophomoric feature, "The Current War" was a period drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon, and Nicholas Hoult. The movie ran into problems owing to the bankruptcy of the production company The Weinstein Company, but Rejon regained the movie's control and released a "Director's Cut" this year.
