Paul Thomas Anderson is set to make a movie about a high school student who is also a successful child actor. Like most of his movie, this one will also be set in the San Fernando Valley. He will write, direct, and produce the 1970s set movie through his banner Ghoulardi Film Company.

The film is said to have intersecting storylines, and Anderson is currently looking for an actor for the lead role. Anderson's yet untitled project is one of the 13 films named in the California Film Commission's list and will go into production in February 2020. Anderson's last movie "The Phantom Thread" starring Daniel Day Lewis, Vicky Krieps, and Lesley Manville was a period drama set in the 1950s
