Amazon is giving the go-ahead for a season 2 of its Lord of the Rings prequel series, which is currently just starting pre-production on its first season. Various online portals confirmed the news of its renewal.
The `Lord of the Rings` series is being developed by the writing team of JD Payne and Patrick McKay. In addition, `Game of Thrones` alum Bryan Cogman has signed on as a consulting producer on the project, with J.A. Bayona set to direct multiple episodes. Amazon gave the series a two-season commitment when it was first announced, but the second season was not locked until Amazon recently gave it a full greenlight.
The series will be produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment.
