On February 12, producer Dan Lin announced the sequel to Disney's blockbuster 2019 film Aladdin. The film is currently in the early stages of development and will have a fresh story. The studio hopes to bring back Guy Ritchie to direct the sequel along with Will Smith to reprise his role as 'The Genie'.
Aladdin is a 2019 musical fantasy film by Walt Disney Pictures which is a live-action adaptation of the 1992 animated film of the same name. The film stars Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Marwan Kenzari in the lead roles. The plot follows Aladdin, a street urchin, as he falls in love with Princess Jasmine, befriends a wish-granting Genie, and battles the wicked Jafar.
Interestingly, the sequel will have an original story not based on the animated sequel (The Return of Jafar). Aladdin grossed $1 billion worldwide against a budget of $183 million. After this incredible success, many have been waiting eagerly for Disney to announce a sequel. People may think that making a sequel would be easy but its not as the live-action version gave the three main characters new endings.
