Fans of the cult classic Indiana Jones franchise have a treat to look forward to as Indiana Jones 5 has finally been confirmed. It has been in and out of development for three years, but finally, its filming is back on track. It is slated to release on July 9, 2021.

According to Harrison Ford, the star that plays the title character, he'll grab his hat and whip and get back to work to continue to play his iconic role just a few months from now. And he's also teasing Indy's next adventure. He said, "Well, I'm not going to share the story with you because that doesn't seem like a good idea. But we'll see new developments in his life, his relationship. We'll see part of his history resolved."

The 77-year-old Star Wars actor mentions development in his `relationship` and references some part of his past being resolved. This could certainly be the last Indiana Jones movie starring Harrison Ford, so one would expect it might wrap up plotlines from the archaeologist's previous adventures. Just how remains to be seen.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy also confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 will be a continuation of the character's story and not a reboot. Harrison Ford has bluntly stated that when he's gone, his character will follow.

Indiana Jones is an American franchise based on the adventures of Dr. Henry Walton 'Indiana' Jones, Jr., a fictional professor of archaeology. It began in 1981 with 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. A prequel, 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom', followed in 1984, and a sequel, 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade', was released in 1989 with a fourth film, 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', being released in 2008.

All of those films are distributed by Paramount Pictures. Created by George Lucas and directed by Steven Spielberg, the franchise stars Harrison Ford as the title character.
