Polish video game company CD Projekt Red is minting money from the success of Netflix's 'The Witcher'. CDPR became the second most valuable games company in Europe after only the French publisher, Ubisoft. This has been confirmed recently after the studio's market valuation surpassed $8 billion. The number one gaming studio in Europe is Ubisoft, which is at $9.52 billion.
CDPR's most recent game of 'The Witcher' video games is 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt', out since May 2015. The number of people playing the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt skyrocketed after the series launched on Netflix. CDPR recently announced that the game has made $50 million in revenue through Steam alone since October 2018. There is no telling why a company would flourish or lose business. But it is pretty clear in case of CD Projekt Red- The Witcher franchise and the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 title.
The Witcher 3 also released on Nintendo Switch recently in addition to Windows, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. It's been made more appealing recently due to getting an update that improves the graphics of the game. In addition to winning numerous awards, the game helped nab CD Projekt Red the coveted Studio of the Year award at the 2015 Game Awards.
CD Projekt Red's The Witcher games follow the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, the monster-slaying hero of a series of popular Polish fantasy novels by author Andrzej Sapkowski.
In December 2019, Netflix released The Witcher series based on the same novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. The show was an instant hit, becoming one of Netflix's most-watched shows ever. The popularity of the show led to a resurgence of interest in the 2015 video game, with gamers flocking to Steam and other game platforms to play. The recent port of the game to the Nintendo Switch helped boost the game's sales, too. Even actor Henry Cavill, who plays Geralt in the Netflix series, has played the game more than once. The Witcher games witnessed an outstanding boost of 554 percent post the Netflix series launch.
CDPR has Cyberpunk 2077 lined up this year in September. Anticipation for CDPR's take on yet another popular franchise is also helping with the studio's current market valuation. The game would hopefully provide a lot of futuristic dystopia, low-life, and high-tech.
