At a time when her former peers Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus are pining for the limelight, Lady Gaga is all set to top-the-charts again. She returns to dance-pop, which is what shot her to fame about a decade ago, with her new single 'Stupid Love'. In the song, she declares, "Now it's time to free me from the chain", over a throbbing disco groove while wearing a shiny hot pink spacesuit.
Interestingly, this is her first piece of music since her acclaimed starring role in the 2018 'A Star Is Born' remake opposite Bradley Cooper. Gaga won an oscar for original song for co-writing 'Shallow', her and Cooper's rootsy power-ballad duet in the film. She was also nominated for an Academy Award for lead actress for the role of Ally Maine in the film. Her last album was the 2016 classic-rock-inspired 'Joanne'.
'Stupid Love' has a colourful music video in which opposing tribes flex their best moves in a post-apocalyptic desertscape. The sci-fi looking video, heavy on the colour pink, starts off with an explanation of why Gaga and her team of dancers appear to be on another planet. " The world rots in conflict. Many tribes battle for dominance. While the Spiritual ones pray and sleep for peace, the Kindness punks fight for Chromatica", it reads. Gaga and her backup dancers, who are dressed in futuristic jumpsuits and headdresses, then dance around a barren landscape that looks like outer space. Check out the video here:
`I want people to dance and feel happy,` Gaga said of her new music. `I put all my heart, all my pain, all my messages from the other realm that I hear... into music that I believe to be so fun and energetically really pure.`
She created 'Stupid Love' with a team headed by BloodPop and the Swedish studio wizard Max Martin. It is produced by BloodPop and Tchami. 'Stupid Love' is Gaga's lead single from her upcoming sixth full-length album. The music video is directed by Daniel Askill and has been shot using the iPhone 11 Pro triple camera system.
