On Thursday, Disney announced that it is pushing back the release of its upcoming live-action feature 'Mulan' and the much-awaited but repeatedly delayed 'New Mutants'.
Not following the example of many other festivals and events that have been postponed recently owing to the global Coronavirus outbreak, a major example of that being the Bond flick 'No Time To Die', that was pushed back to November from April, 'Mulan' still premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles as scheduled on 3rd March. But now it seems as if we will have to wait further to see Disney milk another one of its animated classics into a live-action remake, as the film has been pushed back from its initial release date of 27th March.
'Mulan' is not the only one as the Josh Boone- directed 'New Mutants' too has been pushed back. Let us enlighten you with the history of the film. This is the fourth time that the project has been pushed back. The first delay occurred when the movie's original distributor, 20th Century Fox, moved the release date from April 13th, 2018 to February 22, 2019, to avoid any unnecessary competition with 'Deadpool 2'. Then they leaned into reshoots to make it a scary superhero flick and was moved again to August 2.
That same month, the film faced scrutiny from its new boss, Disney, which acquired Fox and a number of its properties. After further reshoots, the film was given an April 3 release date, which has now been pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And now, fans feel that the film is cursed as it just cannot catch a break!
Mulan especially has taken a hit as the film is based on Chinese folklore, has an all Asian cast, and a Chinese leading lady. The new release dates for either of the films haven't been announced yet.
