Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai's projects come and go, from the now-dead Amazon series `Tong Wars` to development and production suspended in his February movie `Blossoms` due to the coronavirus. While a movie is still in the works, that project now lives on as `Blossoms Shanghai,` Wong's first drama series and an adaptation of Jin Yucheng's award-winning epic novel `Blossoms`. Created and produced by Wong, `Blossoms Shanghai` pays tribute to the director's birthplace `In the Mood for Love` at the most interesting moments in its recent history. The pilot is also led by Wong. This is the first time that Wong has been behind the camera since `The Grandmaster` from 2013.

Written by award-winning Shanghai screenwriter Qin Wen, with images from award-winning filmmaker `Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon` Peter Pau, the series, according to the official synopsis, `tells the story of an enigmatic self-made millionaire, Bao (Hu Ge ), and his reinvention journey of a young opportunist with a troubled past to the heights of the golden city of Shanghai, against the backdrop of massive economic growth in Shanghai in the 1990s, the series reveals the glamor that follows his dazzling wealth and entanglement with four fabulous women who represent the activities of his life: adventure, honor, love and innocence. `
