Set in rural North Dakota, the movie revolves around two estranged sisters, and explore themes of sisterhood, poverty, family obligation, poverty, and reproductive rights. It was award the Nora Ephron Award the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival.
DaCosta replaces Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck who directed the first female-led Marvel film and grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
Disney and Marvel Studios have not confirmed DaCosta's involvement, but the influential Hollywood industry trade outlet reports that the studios had spent the "past couple of months" interviewing candidates to give a "fresh voice" to Captain Marvel's second chapter.
Fleck took to social media to congratulate DaCosta on Wednesday.
