Veteran singer SP Balasubramanyam, who had tested positive for Coronavirus, passes away at the age of 74. The singer was undergoing a treatment at MGM Healthcare Hospital in Chennai and was admitted on August 5 after showing mild symptoms of COVID-19. His condition deteriorated in the last 24 hours and was on maximum life support as the hospital authorities confirmed that the singer was on life support.

Reportedly, he did initially well after diagnosed with coronavirus and was tested negative for COVID on 7 September, however was still admitted in the hospital as he participated in passive physiotherapy.
Giving the sad news, SPB's son SP Charan told reporters at MGM Healthcare in Chennai, `SPB belongs to everyone. He will live on in his songs. My dad passed away at 1.04 pm.`
Known to millions as SPB, Balasubrahmanyam made his singing debut in 1966 with Telugu movie Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna. He has sung over 40,000 songs in as many as 16 languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
Balasubrahmanyam has sung thousands of songs for the South Indian industry and the Hindi industry and is the winner of six national awards. The man who loved every moment of his life had once said in an interview that he treasures life and never wanted to die.
The Government of India honored the singer-actor with Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011. Balasubrahmanyam is no more with us but his evergreen songs will always live in our hearts.
