Time to hang up the aviators and put the false teeth back in storage. Jim Carrey, who has been playing President-elect Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live throughout the 46th season, just announced that he won't be returning to the role.

`Though my term was only meant to be 6 weeks, I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President...comedy's highest call of duty," the comedian wrote on Twitter on December 19, the morning of the sketch comedy show's Christmas episode. "I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that shit. But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting SNL Bidens!`

Carrey didn't give any clue as to who might take over the role, though audiences may get a glimpse of the new Biden when the next episode airs. The SNL Twitter account quote-tweeted Carrey's announcement, adding, `Thank you to Jim Carrey for showing up when it mattered.`

During the primaries, Biden was played by a series of guest stars including Woody Harrelson, Jason Sudeikis, and John Mulaney. Still, it wouldn't have been unheard of for Carrey to continue in the role considering Alec Baldwin played Trump for four years without being a regular cast member. Then again, maybe the next administration won't inspire constant material. Fingers crossed on that.
