World-renowned British lingerie designer Janet Reger has died in London after a long battle with cancer at the age of 69, the Times of London said Tuesday.

Reger was exposed to design early, as her father was a textile manufacturer in East London.She went on to study design before moving to Israel to work on a kibbutz, where she met her future husband, Peter Reger.

After moving to London in 1961, she began doing freelance design and established Janet Reger Creations Ltd.in 1967.

Her bras, negligees and nightwear were sought out by celebrity users and gift-givers ranging from Princess Diana to Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart.

Reger set up a worldwide empire, but in the mid 1980s her business was in trouble and went into voluntary liquidation.At the same time she walked out of her marriage, unable to bear her husband's serial affairs.He became depressed and killed himself.

She eventually re-acquired her company's trading name, but in 1991 was diagnosed with breast cancer.Her sole survivor, daughter Aliza and her husband assumed day-to-day control of the company in 1998.
