Actor Hugh Grant has topped a poll of disgraced stars for his liaison with a prostitute in the US.

The "Notting Hill" actor, who was arrested in Los Angeles in 1995 for soliciting sex from prostitute Divine Brown, scooped first place in the survey by website iVillage.

Other stars to make the Top 10 included drug addict Pete Doherty, sex-tape star Paris Hilton, shoplifter Winona Ryder, cocaine addict Danniella Westbrook and footballer Wayne Rooney, who was caught on closed circuit TV footage visiting a brothel.

Grant was said to have beaten off competition from other disgraced stars because of the unlikely sex scandal he became involved in.

An iVillage spokesman said: "Hugh Grant was the foppish, floppy haired darling of the British acting establishment when, one evening in 1995, he left his pampered universe to explore the seedy side of Los Angeles."
