The American magazine US Weekly has apologised for incorrect reporting after saying that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had adopted a baby girl together.

According to the Internet Movie Database, the magazine issued a correction merely hours after their latest issue hit the stands.

They said: "Jolie's new daughter is, in fact, a girl and while Pitt was present when Jolie signed the adoption papers, he himself was not a party to the adoption...

"We made these errors and stopped the print run in order to correct the story. However, not all issues were corrected in time."

Jolie says she has adopted an orphan girl from Ethiopia but will remain a single mother.
