Hollywood star Andrew Garfield who essays the title role in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' says that Spider-Man was likely to be inspired by - believe it or fly - Mahatma Gandhi!
Garfield says the pacifist superhero is much like the Father of our Nation, as he doesn't believe in throwing a punch. Andrew explains, `Growing up, my imagination was captured by him (Gandhi). I was a kid being bullied in school. I didn't understand where the bullying was coming from.
One of the people I drew hope from was Mahatma Gandhi, along with Spider-Man. He is an important symbol to me, everything he stood for, his peacefulness and his spirit, he was an inspiration for me. Maybe Spiderman was inspired by Gandhi.`
