Pharrell Williams and August Alsina claimed most wins with two awards each at the recently held BET Awards 2014 at the Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, while Williams, 41, won the best male R and B/Pop artist and video of the year for 'Happy', 21-year-old Alsina took home the award for best new artist and the Coca-Cola viewers' choice award at the event by Black Entertainment Television network, which started in 2001 to accolade the work African-Americans in the fields of entertainment.

Other winners at the ceremony included '12 Years A Slave', which won the best movie title with its actors Lupita Nyong'o and Chiwetel Ejiofor honored as best actress and actor, Drake and Nicki Minaj as the best male and female hip hop stars, and Beyonce and Jay Z for best collaboration on 'Drunk In Love' among others.

The ceremony was hosted by Chris Rock, who referred to the event as the "black World Cup", and even joked about two non-related separate pre-show incidents, where a man was killed and another stabbed, saying that the event was the only awards show where people worry about their safety.
