Three-time Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep is taking guitar lessons for her role of a struggling rockstar in an upcoming film.
'Ricki and the Flash', penned by 'Juno' screenwriter Diablo Cody, is yet to go on floors as the crew is waiting for Streep to complete her training, said the Hollywood Reporter.
"The reason we haven't shot the movie yet is Meryl's been learning to play. Watching her come along has been really inspiring," Cody said. Streep, 65, plays a rocker who attempts to reconcile with her neglected kids, one of whom is played by Streep's real-life daughter, Mamie Gummer.
Cody said all songs in the movie will be played live so Streep will be required to play the music. "Everything you hear, the band has to play and Meryl has to play," she said.
The actress' character is inspired in part by Cody's mother-in-law, who for years has fronted a New Jersey bar band. "I watched her on stage so many times, and I thought to myself,
'This woman's life is a movie,'" the writer said. 'Rick and the Flash' shooting will begin on October 1 this year in New York and it is slated to release on June 26, 2015.
