Actor Johnny Depp says he lives `like a fugitive` off screen as he is a shy man.

The 51-year-old, who is always seen in the limelight, insists that he craves a quieter life off screen, reports contactmusic.com.

''I'm f*****g shy man. I'm living, in a sense, like a fugitive. I don't like to be in social situations -- it's fine for me in a weird way, having to run and hide. Less and less, I have the opportunity to observe, because I'm the one being observed," Details magazine quoted Depp as saying.

The `Pirates Of The Caribbean` has admitted that it's tough for him to disassociate himself from the character of Jack Sparrow, which he plays in the franchise.

`It's like being a dog at the track. They expect you to live up to some race you happened to be in and won accidentally. From that first second, you're nothing more than a commodity,` he added.
