Actor Gurmeet Choudhary is trying to get his family members to Mumbai from a quake-hit village in Bihar

Ever since the devastating earthquake struck Nepal and sent tremors through northern India, Gurmeet Choudhary has been spending sleepless nights worrying about the well-being of his family in Purnia, Bihar. The actor, who has had limited communication with his parents and brother in the calamity zone until now, is trying to get them here as soon as possible.

"Barely two days before the quake, there was a hailstorm in Purnia, snapping electric lines. At that time, I was in Goa with Debina (Bonnerjee, wife). My father had called up to say he wouldn't be able to speak to me until power supply is restored as all the phones at home were running out of battery," he says.

After the killer quake struck - it has claimed over 4000 lives so far and the death toll is likely to cross 10,000 - Gurmeet and his wife flew back to Mumbai. "They have been experiencing aftershocks for the last three days. Once while talking to my mother, I heard people screaming and the call got disconnected. I was worried and later she called back to say it was an aftershock. I am in touch with my family, but the networks are jammed and there is no power supply yet in the village. They have been spending the nights outside the house," he adds.

Gurmeet's father SR Choudhary is an ex-Army man, his mother Anmol is a teacher and his brother Agnidev a doctor. "My parents stay with my brother and his wife. Many of my brother's friends are missing in Nepal. He studied there for 10 years and is in a depression now. I am trying to bring my family here for a few days," he says.
