Actor-turned-MP Govinda today said he had received threats from "local and regional anti-social
elements" and that he would make a formal complaint with the police only after consultation with senior
Congress functionaries.
Referring to media reports that he and his family were under threat from the underworld, the Congress
MP from Mumbai (North) said in a signed statement here that neither he had named anybody nor gave
any hint about the source of his threat.
A section of the media had reported that the actor had received threatening calls from Chhota Shakeel,
lieutenant of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
While expressing his gratitude to the media for raising concern about his safety, Govinda said as a
Congress MP, he would take up the issue with the authorities only after meeting senior Congressmen
and discussing the issue with them.
Govinda said certain local and regional anti-social elements were after him and his family. However, he
did not name anybody in this regard.
