"We plan to adapt the movie, repackage the music, the look of the film and even the script but the essence of the movie will be retained," Percept Picture Joint Managing Director, Shailendra Singh, which is producing the film, told reporters here.
"We have done a great deal of research before deciding on this film, because we feel that the younger generation is turning towards God for hope and belief in the lives. The film will be made in Hindi and in Gujarati because our research showed that there is a huge market for such films there," he told.
The title of the film would be "Maa Santoshi Maa" and although Percept has accquired the rights for the film from Satram Rohra, the maker of the original film, Singh insists that his prodcution will not be a remake.
"Yes, we are inspired by the 70's film but it cannot be called a remake. We will package the entire film, including the music, the promos and the script so that it will appeal to today's generation. However, the essence of the movie is timeless and it will appeal to all generations," Singh said.
Music for the film will be by Anu Malik and it will be directed by first timer Ahmed Siddqui who has earlier assisted Yash Chopra.
Southern actress Vedhika Kumar will be making her Hindi film debut in the movie. The film is expected to hit theatres by Navratri this year.
