Ben Rekhi's Waterborne a futuristic disastrous thriller about a terrorist attack on the water supply of Los Angeles, is the first film to be releases and distributed by Google
online.
Shabana Azmi who plays one of the central roles in this film is delighted about being part of this technological innovation.
"I haven't seen Waterborne. But I know it's turned out well. If this experiment of putting a film on the internet works, think what it would do to the morale of independent
filmmakers. Please understand there's very little space for films to have just a theatrical release.
Young talented filmmakers like Ben Rekhi have to subvert the
system and find some way of releasing their film. I'm very eager to help young filmmakers who are trying to become visible."
"It's like the guerrilla theatre in the past. Now we can have guerrilla films. If huge studios won't allow small independent voices, the websites are the solution.
When
music had been put on the internet people had laughed. And look at what the internet has done to music. Putting Waterborne on the internet can start a similar movement."
