After riding over a tumultuous two years of fording investment problems, shooting the film in one of the
most difficult places in the world (Bombay, India) with over 70 locations and many technical difficulties;
Actress/Writer Shah and Producer Brad Listermann at first hit a brick wall higher than Mount Everest as
they set out to conquer Hollywood distributors.
So they took the film festival route discovering the film was an Award winner and audience pleaser. For
one, 'My Bollywood Bride' has over the last month won 'Best Feature Film' at the prestigious Reel
Women International Film Festival last week (March end).
Earlier, it won 'Best of the Fest' at Palm Springs where each of the three screenings were sold out.
It won 'Outstanding Producer' (Brad Listermann) and 'Outstanding Actress' (Kashmera Shah) at Sedona International Film Festival; And Shah won the 'Frownie Cosmetics' award for Best Close Up at Delray Beach Film Festival. Listermann also won the Stella Artois Award for 'Best New Filmmaker.'
More importantly audiences seem to be very pleased with the film evidenced by the applause, laughter and sold out screenings.
Very few Bollywood films have made it big in America. We knew that getting a US distribution deal was
a major feat.
So while our Executive Producer, Duncan Clark (former head of Columbia Tri-Star
Distribution) was showing the film to his contacts, we decided to go to the festivals and show our film.
So far it has been a struggle."
While working on domestic deal in the US, the film has been grabbed by distributors in the U.K., Switzerland, Germany, France, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Spain, and Indonesia Listermann said.
"Because our film is not a Bollywood film or even a musical, yet has exoticness and foreign spice, but
not too "spicy," it is more enjoyable to a bigger audience. Being a clean family also helps, "he adds.
