This time too, the microblogging site was the medium through which one of the leaders decided to reach out to the other. On Monday, Gul tweeted to recommend the Chandigarh MP's name as a "meritorious" individual to head the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune that has been rocked by strikes and protests over the selection of former actor Gajendra Chauhan as its chairman.
When Kirron was told about the tweet, she replied, "I have been fond of her since the very beginning. She is a very bright girl." "I am, however, satisfied to work for the people of Chandigarh as their representative. There are people here who are keeping me busy," the actor-turned-politician quickly added.
On his visit to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) function in Chandigarh on July 8, Anupam Kher, the husband of BJP MP, too had opposed the appointment of Chauhan, saying he was not qualified for the post.
Gul, on the other hand, complimented Kirron for her "eminence, merit and gravitas! @KirronKherBJP" while continuing to favour her name in a Twitter reply that Kirron would be a "great choice for the post."
Gul, however, felt that she has often praised the Chandigarh MP. "This is not the first time," she said.
The two former contestants for Chandigarh's Lok Sabha seat shared similar sentiments when it came to the government's appointments from its party.
Gul, in her tweet, was not objecting to BJP's appointment for the head of the FTII. In a reply to a tweet that was politically inclined towards the saffron party, she wrote, "So far Cong/Leftists had been enjoying "Secular Politics", subjugating Hindus in all walks of life..!!! because in the past only they were in power! It's but natural for a #BJP govt to appoint its own people!"
Kirron too spoke in the same vein. "During the NDA I regime, the BJP did not change the Congress appointed people, for which we had to pay a heavy price. So, there is nothing wrong in appointing people from the party."
