Aishwarya Rai's eagerly anticipated film ‘Mistress of Spices' directed by Gurinder Chadha's husband
Paul Mayeda Berges has bombed at in UK and fetching worst reviews.
The film opened with a paltry $150,000 on just about 30 screens. On the other hand, the Akshay Kumar
film Humko Deewana Kar Gaye grossed about $300,000 in its second weekend across the
country.
In 2004, Ash's Bride & Prejudicehad opened to No 1 in the UK on about 370 screens, making over $3
million.
Reviewers feel that the film fails to generate any heat. Also the chemistry between the main leads, Ash
and Dylan lacks intensity and fire.
Based on a bestseller with the same name by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, the film revoles around a
woman who could lose her magical healing powers if she fell in love. It was premiered in September at
the Toronto International Film Festival where most major critics ignored it.
Since Aish is not publicising the film, the distributors are fuming.
