Film and TV actor Shekhar Suman was recently in New Delhi as part of a play Ek Mulaqaat, where he played the protagonist.

Suman learnt acting and stagecraft from Delhi. "I worked as an actor with the Shri Ram Centre Repertory Company. In those days,I would try my best to impress Delhi's theatre audience,which I have always felt, is very critical. It can pan even the most noted actors."

When asked what he likes about the city, he said, "The roundabouts. I roamed around the city with my then-girlfriend, aur aaj bhi unhi ke saath ghoom raha hoon, as she is my wife now." He adds, "I used have butter chicken at Pandara Road, have sweets at Bengali Market, hang out in Defence Colony and take part in bike races near the airport."

However, he says that now he feels alienated whenever he is in the city. "The character of the city has changed. Now, the environment is so politicised and the rate of crime has also gone up. The infrastructure has made it into a labyrinth. People were more carefree in the Delhi that I knew."
