Popular singer Zoheb Hassan, who found it difficult to perform after the death of his singer sister Nazia
Hassan in 2000, has now completed an album and is all set to sing again in his late sister's
memory.
The brother-sister duo of Pakistan origin was a singing sensation in India and Pakistan in the 1980s.
Nazia became a rage in India after she sang in Feroze Khan's "Qurbani", and then released her hit
album "Disco Deewane".
Zoheb's new album, "Kismet", will be released in India soon. It will later be released in Europe and the
US. The female voice in the album is that of Sehr.
Speaking to Eastern Eye, a leading British Asian weekly, Zoheb said: "Nazia and I had been working on
songs for an album that was to be called 'Kismet' but soon she fell seriously ill. Before she passed
away she had told me to make sure I carry on with my music but even then I could not bring myself to
do it.
"Over the years, friends and family have been pushing me towards it and it is great to see the
phenomenal response to the musical."
Zoheb, who also runs a media company in Pakistan, said: "I met Sehr when she was just 15 and I felt
she sounded like a young Lata (Mangeshkar). She comes from a poor home and I do hope her Kismet
links with the fortunes of the album."
Nazia's family has kept her memory alive through the Nazia Hassan Foundation, which will set up its
first children's home just outside Karachi soon. Zoheb is working on his next Nazia project: "Nazia
Hassan, The Musical".
He said: "Nothing would have pleased Nazia more than to see the amazing response to the latest
album."
