It seems like the tables have turned. Until now it was only Bollywood remaking Hollywood films but very
soon you'll be able to see our very own Munnabhai being remade in the United States.
The Hollywood version of the film will be titled Gangster MD and will directed by Mira Nair.
Chris Tucker will play the role of Sanjay Dutt in the Hollywood version. Mira Nair said to Mumbai Mirror,
"Chris Tucker will be playing the main character in the film." She also added that the filming should
begin after Chris finishes shooting for Rush Hour3
Nair said she may cast some actors from the Bollywood original, and is on the lookout for an Indian
woman to star opposite Tucker.
Munnabhai MBBS is the story of a gangster, who pretends to be a doctor whenever his parents visit him
from their village. But when his cover is blown he tries to redeem himself by enrolling himself in a
medical school to become a doctor. What follows is a series of comic and emotional sequences.
Munnabhai MBBS went on to become one of Bollywood's most successful stories. Phrases like "Jadoo
Ki Jhappi" & "Teri to waat lag gayi mamu" became common parlance. And probably even laughter
therapy received a boost after the film!
