Udit's lawyer Majeed Memon told that he and his client would appear before the Commission on June 16 to present their side of the story.
He said Udit, as a responsible citizen and a celebrity, has positively responded to the summons by the Commission by instructing his lawyer to appear on his behalf. But as the Commission had ordered him to appear in person, Udit would definitely follow the directive, he said.
"Udit has respect for institutions like Bihar Women's Commission and would certainly appear before it on June 16", Memon said adding that the singer had not appeared earlier as he wanted to avoid the media glare.
The Commission had yesterday issued an ultimatum to Udit to appear before it and rejected his plea for exemption from personal appearance. It even threatened to issue arrest warrant against him.
Udit had failed to appear before the Commission on four earlier occasions, which had issued it summons following Ranjana's claim of marriage with him.
The Commission chief observed that on the basis of photographs of the marriage and statement of people, who had attended it almost over two decades ago, the panel had found Ranjana's claim to be true and wanted to hear the singer's version and also a clarification about his relationship with Deepa Narayan with whom he is living at present.
