Shabana Azmi invites crowd for Nirbhaya's tribute

Veteran actress and social activist Shabana Azmi has urged the public to come in "large numbers" to pay tribute to the December 16, 2012 Delhi gang rape victim at Jantar Mantar here.

The tribute for the victim who was named as Nirbhaya by the masses, will be held on December 16.

"Met Nirbhaya's parents today. They are organising a shradhanjali (tribute) for her on 16 December at Jantar Mantar. Please come in large numbers," the veteran actress tweeted on Friday night.

The 2012 Delhi gang rape case involved a rape and fatal assault that occurred on December 16 in Munirka in South Delhi. The incident involved a 23-year-old girl, who was beaten and gang raped in a private bus in which she was travelling with a male friend. She later died in a Singapore hospital where she was airlifted for specialised treatment.
