She said she was lodging the complaint as the Punjabi singer "publically in front of the media insulted me and sexually assaulted me."
The Commission has taken cognizance of the complaint and agreed that prima facie appeared to be a case of sexual assault.
"From what we have seen in the electronic media, it is clear that Mika's behaviour with Rakhi Sawant was wrong. It prima facie appears to be a case of sexual assault," NCW chairperson Girija Vyas said in a statement.
Sawant, who e-mailed her complaint of sexual assault against Mika to NCW on Thursday, will be meeting Vyas on Monday for a personal hearing.
NCW has also sought a report from Mumbai police over the action it has taken on the fir lodged by Sawant in the matter.
"As the matter is in court now, we hope justice will be done," Vyas said.
Sawant, in her complaint to the Commission said Mika ‘brutally assaulted me and forcibly smooched me'.
She said she was lodging the complaint as the Punjabi singer ‘publically in front of the media insulted me and sexually assaulted me'.
Recounting the alleged incident, Sawant said she visited Mika's birthday party on his invitation and greeted him like a good friend. "But to my surprise, he took advantage of our relationship and forcibly kissed me on my lips twice," she said.
She said she had asked Mika to apologise to her in front of the media but he has refused to do so.
"I need justice. I need to set an example that women cannot be taken for granted," Sawant said.
