Did you know that you are living in the diabetes capital of the world and there are over a million people dying in India every year due to diabetes?

One day 13-year-old Rahul (name changed) a resident of Gurgaon collapsed as he was walking home from school. Rahul was on high sugar content and was also a victim of the hereditary ailment because his parents had it. But the parents never got it tested. Rahul was rushed to hospital, but then most of his organs had stopped functioning well because of his body situation.

When Rahul was brought home from the hospital, it was only to show his relatives, his last glimpse before his mortal remains were consigned to the flames.

As Indians, you will not be proud of this title - India is the Diabetes Capital of the World. It really does not sound sweet when you know that one million people die of diabetes in India every year. India has more than 20 percent of the world diabetes affected people population and that is no reason to party.

It has been estimated by the American Diabetes Association, that by 2030, the number of diabetes cases in India can increase from 62 to 79.4 million. Why do you think it is so? Who or rather what is the culprit? Why is the number growing so fast? What is it we are doing wrong? Here is the answer!

Food-like products
I believe we are emptying our pockets to buy and consume food-like products, at the cost of our health. Our biggest mistake has been to turn away from the natural towards the unreal. Fresh fruits and vegetables have been taken over by fried and ready-to-eat goods, I'm sure you all agree to that. The reason your hunger is often associated with a particular restaurant or brand is because they infuse a secret ingredient that attracts your taste buds. Therefore we keep going to the same restaurant, ordering the same dishes, as well as like only this particularly brand of biscuits. It is very much understood that non-food ingredients like glutamates, preservatives, sugar substitutes etc are hidden in our foods. They release high level of insulin and hence should be avoided. Unfortunately 1/3 of all processed foods and foods in restaurants contain these secret ingredients. They only make sure you will buy their food-like products again and again because they care about their sales and not your health. I must say, the marketing strategy is brilliant as their sales graph sees an ascending curve, but unfortunately people are paying a high price for their naïvete, believing that the products are nutritious.

Choice is yours, you can spend your money buying and consuming healthy food or you can spend ever more money on the doctors and plenty of medicine. It is simple!

Claudia's secrets

My point here is to make you understand that these products are not going to give you low cholesterol level or normal blood sugar. So it would be better for you to mainly consume home cooked food which will nourish your body. I'm not saying that food-like products are completely forbidden, but they should be like a candy for a kid, means eaten with a limitation and not be always the centre of attraction. Keep Eating, Keep Losing. That is the real secret to a healthy weight loss.
