The show is based on the concept of using mass media as a tool to promote joyful and fun-filled learning.
Targeted at children in the two-six year age group, "Galli Galli Sim Sim" will address topics such as literacy, creative thinking, reasoning, family and community life, healthy habits and appreciating cultural plurality.
US First Lady Laura Bush shot for an episode of the series in New Delhi during her India visit in March with President George Bush.
"Our mission is to create innovative engaging content that maximises the educational power of media to help children reach their highest potential. We at Sesame Workshop are very excited about the launch of the Indian series," said Sesame Workshop executive vice president Daniel Victor.
Set in an Indian galli or street, "Galli Galli Sim Sim" represents the reality of daily life of Indian children and families.
The show will feature animated segments, live action films, music, stories and art drawn from various elements of the Indian culture.
"The social and emotional development of children is largely influenced by television today and there is no doubt that this is the best medium to communicate effectively with children.
We are confident that this new series will change the face of kids education in India," said Anshuman Misra, managing director of Turner International India, whose Cartoon Network will telecast the show.
