Along with film director Farhan Akhtar, and the musical trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy, they cast their musical spell on stage.
The musical release saw SRK regaling the audience with his histrionic skills. Indulgent Mumbaikars soaked in the Ganesh Utsav spirit that heralds the onset of the festive season in Mumbai.
In his own inimitable style, SRK mouthed some classic Don dialogues as he turned out in his dashing Don outfit. Slated for a Diwali release, the movie-makers hoped that the hype they created would fetch them enhanced viewer-interest for the remake of the classic Amitabh thriller of the Seventies.
With two of the original songs, Khai ke Paan Banaras wala and Mai Hoon Don being retained from the original, Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy's music seems to be the perfect platform to build the hype for the movie.
Acting on cue as it were, Farhan Akthar turned up on stage and held forth on how he hoped to reconstruct the Don magic for the second time round. He said he really loved Amit uncle's (Amitabh Bachchan) acting in the original, and hoped his sequel with SRK would be able to recreate some of the magic.
Going by the swooning audience at the launch, it seemed like the Don die had been cast. And, the response to the musical score may well be an indicator to what would be the movie's fate, this Diwali!
