The Chairman of the Priyadarshini Academy, Nanik Rupani, has announced that their biennial Smita Patil Memorial Award will be given to actor Kareena Kapoor for her outstanding contribution to the film industry.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will be the chief guest at the award ceremony, which will be held on September 19 at Hotel Hilton Towers in Mumbai.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath and Minister for Finance and Planning Jayantrao Patil will be the guests of honour at the event.

Priyadarshini Academy, a prominent NGO, has been holding the biennial awards function ever since its inception in 1984.
