Actress Kangana Ranaut is no stranger to presenting her opinions without fear, and her strength of conviction was echoed at the #Fit-ToFight award ceremony held in the Capital recently to honour strong women.
While speaking to Mail Today about her own life, strength and inspiration, Kangana Ranaut shared: "I look up to Swami Vivekanand. I am an ardent follower of his teachings and I read a lot of his material."
"Apart from that, I also take a lot of inspiration from my own wisdom as a woman. I feel that every individual is different with their own blueprint to follow. Since no two lives are alike, I have to find my own voice. My inner voice is my navigator," she said.
Aimed at celebrating unknown 'women heroes' who have overcome physical abuse, social trauma or disability, the show was held at Grand Hyatt hotel. Among those who won in the physical category were Deepa Malik, the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympics games and Geeta Tandon, a stunt woman in Bollywood who overcame marital rape.
Awards were also given to Bhakti Sharma, the second and youngest swimmer in the world to swim across four oceans, founder of Youth Parliament, Ishita Choudhary, founder of Kat-Katha Geetanjali Babbar and founder of Pro-Eves, Ketika Kapoor.
Commending the women awardees, brand ambassador for Reebok India, Ranaut opined, "The one thing they have in common is the attitude of not letting the world bring them down and being complete go-getters. They're not ashamed of being ambitious - which women are often made to feel - and they're not ashamed to feel like they're equals."
Ranaut also spoke of how women are usually fed with the idea that their fathers, husbands and brothers are meant to be the heroes, while she should be the support and behind their success.
"Sometimes we want to be in the front but feel very guilty about it. It can mess up with our psyche and if you drown in that success you can never rise," The actress said.
While Kangana is no stranger to struggle in her own life, she insists that her innate resilience has seen her through to her current state of success.
"I think my ability to wake up every morning and only see the brighter side is the best part about me. I may feel at night that so many things have gone wrong but the next morning I will only see and focus on the silver lining and that gets magnified in my mind. "It is so hard for me to be unhappy. I never get sad, never cry," she revealed.
