None other than Asha Bhosale, with whom he recorded a non-film duet for the album ''Asha and Friends'' last week, appreciated his talent.
Asha Bhosale, while talking to UNI, said Sanjay had a very good voice. ''His base is very good and he sang with a feeling which gelled with the theme of the song which is fun,'' she said.
She said ''Asha and Friends'' was conceptualised by her with music composer Shamir Tandon.
''We wanted seven unconventional singers with good voices to sing duet with me. We approached Sanjay and he readily accepted the offer,'' Asha said.
Sanjay completed the recording in 15 minutes. ''I was stunned when Sanju recorded it so quickly. And his voice is so much like Kishoreda. It has a masculine feel to it which is missing in many playback singers of today,'' said Asha, paying generous compliments to ''Munnabhai''.
She said there are several actors like Jackie Shroff, Govinda, and Aamir Khan who have a good voice. When asked whether she had approached them to sing with her, she said nothing had been decided as yet.
Recalling Sanjay's own words, music composer Shamir Tandon said the actor had almost fallen off the chair when he heard that Asha Bhosale wanted him to sing with her. Both Tandon and journalist turned music video director S Ramachandran said they thought Asha Bhosale would want a singer for the duets.
''She had done her home work well. Sanjay was rocking. He recorded quicker than most playback singers,'' says Tandon.
Sanju, currently, is busy playing his prized possession -- the CD of the song -- to his family and friends who are amazed by his new-found vocal talents. Asha Bhosle will record more songs for her album which has music by Shamir Tandon with several other Bollywood stars in the days to come, Tandon said.
