Director: Vikram Pradhan
Rating: **
When the Punjabi film industry is spreading its wings and touching new heights, there are few filmmakers who are still stuck in the past. Though Vikram Pradhan, writer, and director of Sat Shri Akaal England has come up with a tried and tested formula. The title of the film has already given us the idea of the storyline and it's a ripped off version of 'Namastey London'. But did he succeed in this let's find out!
Sat Shri Akaal England is a story which revolves around Ammy Virk and Monica Gill in prominent roles. Ammy (Major German Singh Maan) wants to go to abroad desperately for a better future but he fails everytime he tries his luck. He tries everything but all in vain.
But eventually, he succeeds in going abroad by doing a fake marriage with Geet Kahlon (Monica Gill). Geet and Lakha (Karamjit Anmol) come to India and Geet gets married to German as he has paid a hefty price to the travel agent for this fake marriage.
After getting married they come to England but the struggle for better future continues for German. He started doing some odd jobs to earn a livelihood. From working as food attendant to as a truck driver he did many jobs but failed there as well due to his negligence and he gets fired from there as well.
German has to pay Geet the rest of the amount he has promised but he doesn't have enough money to pay the amount at once so he starts paying in installments. One day when he visits Geet to pay the installment he expresses his feelings to Geet that he has fallen in love with her but gets heartbreak when Geet introduces her boyfriend to German and they both part their ways.
The story of the film is pretty ordinary till the interval but here comes the twist, when Immigration Authorities find out the involvement of Geet and Lakha into the business of sham marriages. They both get arrested but they deny any of their involvement in this fake marriage business and claims the marriage with German is genuine. So they get two weeks time to prove it.
Vikram Pradhan and Jatinder Lall, both have tried many efforts to save this ordinary script by giving new twist and tales to it.
How things get changed and how German and Geet tackle this situation and how they come out of this situation and what forced Geet to do a fake marriage is very interesting to watch.
Vikram Pradhan has tried many things, he wants to convey lots of messages in one short story. He has touched many issues from racism, sham marriages to fake and fraudster travel agents, these are some issues which are highlighted in the film but none of them was appealing enough.
Though there is not much in this weak script the funny moments and comic timings of Ammy Virk and Karamjit Anmol is quite impressive and will make you laugh at regular intervals.
Ammy is a natural actor who doesn't require any much effort to bring out his best. Monica Gill as a British bride is impressive.
Karamjit Anmol in a short role is good enough to tickle your funny bones.
Rest of the actors have also played their parts very well.
Music of the film is not that impressive still a couple of songs are good to remember.
The script and screenplay are the main culprits in this film. The direction is also not up to the mark. It could have been better. So I would say it's a poorly ripped off version of Bollywood hit 'Namastey London'. But if you are a fan of Ammy Virk you'll love it as he has really done a great job!
