After inspiring Bollywood movies, the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi is now the subject of an upcoming television show starring Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman's Sugriv Fame Vikram Sharma. The series, titled 21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897, will be telecast on Discovery Jeet channel and will go on air early next year.
In the September 12, 1897 battle of Saragarhi in the North-West Frontier Province (in modern-day Pakistan), 21 Sikh soldiers part of the British Indian Army stood their ground during an attack by 10,000 Afghan tribesmen even though they were vastly outnumbered. In this show Vikram Sharma will be seen in a never seen before avatar. He will be playing the character of Balwinder Singh.
As we know, Battle of Saragarhi has Mohit Raina and Mukul Dev in central roles.
Three movies based on the battle have also been announced - a Karan Johar production titled Kesari starring Akshay Kumar as Singh, another directed by Rajkumar Santoshi with Randeep Hooda in the lead and a third, produced by Ajay Devgn. However, while Devgn will take another few years to compete, Santoshi's movie has reportedly hit a roadblock.
The team is busy shooting in the outskirts of Mumbai.
