Bollywood's legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has indirectly expressed unhappiness over youngsters skipping their graduation and joining BPO industry as call centre employees.

In his acknowledgement speech, after receiving the Doctorate of Letters conferred on him by the Delhi University, Bachchan without referring to BPO employees, said that there has been recent trend of youngsters not taking up graduation and instead move to jobs, which he termed as being "not good".

Turning nostalgic over his years, as a student in the University's Kirori Mal College, Bachchan urged the youngsters to join colleges and pursue higher education as it leads them to ' have more interactions with people and help in bringing maturity".

"Many question me that what has been the benefit of graduation in their professional life. But graduation not only enlighten people but also helps in shaping one person", Bachchan said to those present in the auditorium.

The BPO industries in the country beside recruiting graduates also recruit under-graduate students.

Bachchan, who is the first actor to be awarded the honorary doctorate by the Delhi University, received thunderous applause when he spoke about his days in the Kirori Mal College, where he took admission in B. Sc (General) course.

"I still remember about the hours spent at the coffee house, at the bus stop outside the Miranda House (a Women's College)", adding "yes always outside the Miranda House." This led the audience burst into laughter.

Acknowledging the University for identifying his acting talent, Bachchan said, "Here in Delhi University I was first inspired to go into the field of acting".

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, renowned cartoonist R K Laxman and Scientific Advisor to Prime Minister C N R Rao were the other eminent personalities honored by the Delhi University.

The University will also honor historian Romila Thapar, industrialist Ratan Tata and prominent writer Mahashweta Devi at the convocation to be held later.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists, however, used the occasion to shout slogans outside the convocation venue in protest against the honor being given to Sheila Dikshit.

They claimed that Dikshit was unworthy of honor.
