Bollywood filmmaker Prakash Jha today told the Patna High Court that there had not been any bending of rules in the allotment of land to him by the Bihar government for
building multiplexes.
An affidavit, filed on behalf of Jha by his advocate Tarakant Jha in the court of a division bench comprising Justices Aftab Alam and Rekha Kumari, said the state government
alloted land to his firm in accordance with the industrial policy and a complaint against him was politically motivated.
Counsel M P Gupta, appearing for petitioner Prem Chandra Mishra, the state Congress spokesman, drew the court's attention to the fact that while the filmmaker had
mentioned that he had applied for allotment of land at Patna, Sitamarhi, Hajipur and Bettiah on February 21 this year, a letter from the Bihar Industrial Development
Corporation attached with the affidavit mentioned the applications were received on January 30.
Gupta told the court that rules were violated by the Bihar government in allotting land to Jha, who had helped the NDA come to power by extensively campaigning for it in the
last state elections.
Advocate General P K Shahi was also present in the court.
With arguments of the petitioner and defence counsel remaining incomplete, the court fixed November 20 for further hearing on the matter.
